Justin Session Mrs. Edwards Honors British Lit. 3 November 2015 The destruction wrought when ambition goes unchecked by moral constraints. Macbeth, a loyal warrior under the rule of his close friend Duncan, begins to be toyed with by three witches who tell him how to become king but only he would be king and none of his ancestors. Macbeth plans to seize this opportunity but begins to doubt himself as he struggles to commit a murder that would undoubtedly scar him for the rest of his life, however Lady Macbeth a strong willed women begins to convince Macbeth to go through with the murder of Duncan. This is the first point in the story where the roles of Lady Macbeth and Macbeth are defined, Macbeth as a naturally weak person when around his wife and Lady Macbeth as a strong extremely influential person in Macbeth’s life. The roles of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth swap as the play goes on with with Macbeth changing from a loyal warrior under Duncan’s rule to a ruthless king who will stop at nothing to achieve his goals and Lady Mac beth changing from a scheming wife in search of power to a caring woman who could not carry the guilt of her sin. First, during the beginning of the play Macbeth is a strong soldier who fights for the King without mercy. This can be seen when Shakespeare says â€Å"Till he faced the slave; which ne’er shook hands, nor bade him farewell to him, till he unseamed him from the nave to th’ chops, and fix d his head upon our battlements.† (I.II.9).
